Big Basin Redwoods State Park
San Lorenzo Valley · Santa Cruz County
California's oldest state park, open for day use while it recovers from the 2020 fire. Old-growth redwoods stand through burned ground, and parking is capped.
The 2020 CZU Lightning Complex fire burned 97% of the park, and most of the old-growth redwoods survived it. The park is open for day use and its facilities are returning in stages, so what is open changes from one season to the next — the park page is the place to check. Parking is capped and a reservation is recommended. Oversized vehicles and trailers are not admitted, and dogs are limited to part of North Escape Road. There is no cell service at the entrance. The park accepts wedding and filming requests.
