Garrapata State Park
Carmel · Monterey County · West · Evening
Coastal bluff and headland south of Carmel, reached from turnouts on Highway 1. Calla lilies run in the canyon in late winter.
West-facing bluffs and beach access.
Access is from unmarked turnouts on Highway 1, with no formal parking lot and no facilities. Trail closures are common on the ridge. Calla lilies run in the canyon in late winter. Dog access on the beach is limited to the south end. Big Sur closes. Wildfire and winter slides shut Highway 1 and the state parks along it, sometimes for a season, and access is often cut from one direction while the other stays open. Anything planned here is planned around that. The park or venue's own page and Caltrans carry current conditions.
